About Us
The Sri Lankan Doctors’ Association of Victoria commenced life in the early nineteen eighties, when a small group of doctors of Sri Lankan origin who were living and working in Melbourne at the time, got together for a meal.
That first meeting laid the foundations for an annual get together. This took place initially in the home of a member and the annual event progressed, as the group got larger and larger, to meetings in restaurants, then to formal dinner-dances at venues such as golf clubs and similar function venues and - over the last couple of decades - in a hotel.
The Annual Scientific Meeting & Gala Dinner became a highlight of the calendar for many of us, providing us with an opportunity to meet and network. The Association, though never formally incorporated, was comprised of a group of like-minded individuals held together by friendship and our common love for Sri Lanka who would meet annually to stay in touch, re-kindle old friendships and make new ones.
It helped us to maintain our links with Sri Lanka and also to assist younger Sri Lankan doctors newly arrived and starting to find their feet in Victoria. In 2024, with the number of Sri Lankan Doctors in Victoria numbering over three hundred, it was decided to formally incorporate the Association.
This was done on 14th April 2024 – which was the dawn of the Sri Lankan (Saka-era) New Year. We welcome new members who are connected to Sri Lanka by birth or ancestry, irrespective of whether you graduated in Sri Lanka, in Australia or in a medical/dental school in another country.

The 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting and Gala Dinner will be held at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins on Saturday the 18th of October.
